| - | If this shows up an error message "xsane: no devices available", make sure that the OfficeJet is turned on. The -X option enables X11 forwarding and is actually not necessary. If xsane starts successfully, place your original onto the scanner and accquire a preview, either in Line-art, Greyscale or Color. Select a low resolution, e.g. 75 dpi; otherwise previewing might take too much time. Note that so far there is no support for using the automatic document feeder (ADF). Use the mouse and select a scan area in the preview window, adjust settings (e.g. resolution, quality, and also output format and file) in the main window, and start scanning. The selected output file (default out.pnm) will contain the image data. Detailed information on the Scanner front end xsane can be found using "man xsane" on mouton.informatik.uni-kiel.de.
